As reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the event’s organisers were hoping to beat the current record for the number of people taking part (400) in celebration of the 400th run.
Founder Ray Scovell says they have smashed that target, with almost 500 people lacing up their running shoes to take on the 5 kilometer course today.
Ray told Isle of Wight Radio:
“I set Park Run up nearly eight years ago with a few friends like Steve Duff – who came on-board and set the courses up with me – and from then on it’s just grown enormously. Today, we have just under 500 runners so we’re quite amazed really.
“It’s not a race, it’s a run – and I think that’s what the whole community likes about it…
It’s a social run and people just enjoy it.”
