Visit Isle of Wight has appointed a new Chairman.

Ian Griffiths, of Alverstone Garden Village, who promotes tropical island getaways, will oversee the work of the company.

After setting up his own tourism marketing company on the mainland, Ian moved back to the Island, fulfilling the role left vacant after Simon Dabell’s retirement last year.

Ian fills the role after a unanimous vote of the Visit Isle of Wight Board yesterday (21 March) and says he is looking forward to the role.

He said:

“When I saw the Chairman’s position I thought I could do that.

“I was taken aback when I got the interview and then again when I got the job, but I’m so excited.

“I definitely want to strengthen the relationship with WightBID (Business Improvement District) levy payers, I think it’s a fantastic opportunity to engage in the marketing, personally.

“Working with partners to help them understand the levy and to help us understand why they don’t like it.”

Will Myles, Managing Director, at Visit Isle of Wight, said:

“We welcome Ian to the team and look forward to working with him and benefiting from his experience.”
