Cowes Sports secured Wessex Premier League safety with a hard-fought draw against AFC Portchester on Saturday (6).

A 2-1 defeat for relegation-threatened Bemerton Heath Harlequins saw the Yachtsmen retain their place in the top tier for next season.

The Island side drew 3-3 with AFC Portchester thanks to goals from captain and player/manager John McKie, Connor Furmidge and substitute Callum Watkins.

Meanwhile, in Division One Newport lost 1-0 at Downton. And, East Cowes Vics drew 1-1 with Andover Town.

Port are in 9th and Vics in 7th. Cowes Sports remain 18th in the Premier Division.

Yesterday (Sunday), Cowes Ladies lost 5-2 to Gosport Falcons in the Hampshire County Women’s Football League.

But, there was some good news for the Island’s women sides with East Cowes Vics hitting seven past Winchester City Flyers.

Shanklin Ladies were comfortably defeated 8-0 by Abingdon United.

Cowes Ladies sit 8th and East Cowes Vics are in 10th. Shanklin Ladies remain rooted to the foot of the Southern Region Women’s Football League table.
