The travel chaos – or at least part of it – is due to come to an end today (Friday), with Newport’s Staplers Road set to reopen.
It’s as three month-long water main works by Southern Water come to an end.
The busy route is expected to fully re-open at 5pm.

*Southern Water has confirmed the road will reopen at 5pm.
A spokesperson said:
“We’ll remain onsite to connect customers to the new water main, however this work will be in the footway and will not affect traffic.
Due to network issues we were unable to carry out the final connections and work needed to complete this scheme.
We’ll be working closely with Island Roads, and to avoid the busy summer season, we will look to re-plan this work from September.
Work to reinstate the recently-laid road surface will be carried out in May over three nights with closures. This will be advertised at the time.
We’d like to thank motorists and residents for their patience during this work, and we’ll update customers on the final phase of work later in the year.”
