They’re used to tackling life-threatening blazes but Isle of Wight firefighters have been taking on a challenge of a different kind today (Saturday) – as they fought to free a seagull which got into a spot of bother in Newport.
One appliance – and an aerial ladder – from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Next store on the town’s Upper St James’ Street at 2pm.
A herring gull got stuck in the shop’s sign. The street had to be cordoned off while the rescue mission was carried out.
Firefighters have since handed the bird over to the RSPCA.
