Islanders assemble! A brand-new cosplay gaming event is taking flight in Cowes today (Saturday).
CGI Con – not to be confused with Island Con – is back with a vengeance following a trial run earlier this year.
Described as a celebration of pop culture, technology and community, the event is welcoming fans of all ages to come along.
It is being hosted at Cowes Enterprise College and one of the organisers – and host – Alex Watts promises it will be a super day.
He said the event is back by popular demand:
“You realise there’s an appetite for it when you get messages from people who you’ve never met before who are like ‘I didn’t know this is on, this is very much up my street, when’s the next one?’.
“So we had a bit of a meeting and decided to try out another expansion of it. The first show the stage was just up and we had some friends around to play some games.
“This time we have expanded, we’ve got our own activity zones. We have Batman vs Superman sumo suits, inflatable unicorn races and more traders this time – food. It’s slowly expanding.”
CGI Con was created for the Isle of Wight’s Pop Culture community.
The team – which consists of four main organisers – say the goal is to host four events per year, with one key one attracting thousands of people through its doors.
“It’s more of a family day out for anyone who has sort of put their towel around their neck after a bath and jumped off the sofa dressed as Superman!
“It’s about technology, gaming, family and fun!”
This time around, organisers say they will be giving away a Nintendo Switch, as well as a comic book fans dream prize: two tickets to MCM Comic Con in London – courtesy of WightFibre.
Doors open at 10am.
The first events kick off from 12pm onwards.
