A group of friends will be walking the Isle of Wight’s coastline in memory of a “fantastic man” this weekend.
Having survived cancer which struck at the age of 22, Michael Ormerod was once again diagnosed aged 39.
Undeterred, he underwent several treatments of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery in an attempt to beat it once again. Michael lost his battle last month.
Today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) his friends Stephen, Dina and Chris will walk 66 miles along the Island to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who supplied essential care to Michael throughout his fight.
Stephen Whitcroft told Isle of Wight Radio:
“In memory of his battle and complete resolve not to give up we’re doing this walk for him.
“It’s for Macmillian. It’s a wonderful charity. It’s people who just give support not only to those suffering from the cancer themselves but also all the other people you don’t normally hear about – the people who are suffering as a result of their friends/family member going through this traumatic experience.
“From a personal perspective, this was a friend I’ve had for 40 years – he was the best man at my wedding.”
