A public consultation into the future of schools in the West Wight closes tomorrow (Tuesday).
The Isle of Wight Council is proposing that All Saints CE Primary in Freshwater shuts.
Its ‘preferred option’ is to move Yarmouth Primary there instead. As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, some parents do not want that to happen.
This is the second consultation to launch, as the local authority attempts to manage what it is calling a surplus of school places.
Councillor Paul Brading, the cabinet member overseeing the consultation, is urging Islanders to have their say:
“We will listen to them. We’re following a whole process for the West Wight place planning process.
“Just like we did with the original paper we listen to all of the views of the West Wight community and the strength of opinion was that there was an option that we hadn’t come up with that the West Wight community wanted us to explore further.”
Councillor Brading says he will take the final sign off of the paper to Cabinet.
