Another year on the Isle of Wight brings another set of competitors to the esteemed Round the Island Race 2019.

Whether you’re planning to take part along with over a thousand other boats, or stay on dry land and spectate, Isle of Wight Radio’s guide to Round The Island Race 2019 has all the information you need.

Round The Island Race From The Shore

This years round the island race is set to see over one thousand vessels take to the seas around the Isle of Wight, if you’re planning to spectate and would like to get a great vantage point, try checking out some of these locations.

  • St Catherines Point
  • The Needles Old Battery
  • Culver Down
  • Cowes Parade

At different stages of the day, each viewpoint will come into its own as the race and flock progress around the Island.

The race is set to start north of Cowes on the Island Sailing Club line with the first start at 7:30am. Further starts take place across the morning as classes are launched into the race – all traveling anti-clockwise towards Yarmouth.

Official Race Village 

If you are looking to soak up the atmosphere that the Round The Island Race has become famous for, the all-new Official Race Village is the place to be. Now located on Cowes Parade, the Official Race Village is set to host entertainment across the weekend.

The Official Round the Island Race 2019 Race Village has this year been relocated to Cowes Parade. Boasting a beer tent, several Isle of Wight Food Vendors and an incredible entertainment line-up.

There is a specialty gin bar and a large beer and spirits bar that boasts brands, including Amstel, Moretti, Pimms and Prosecco 1754.

Delicious food is available too, from Isle of Wight companies Nomad Street Food, Frostbite Bakery, Vegan Boys, the Isle of Wight Proper Burger Co, and Cowes Fruitful Yoghurts.

This year’s race partners Helly Hansen, Raymarine and the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust will also be there.
