This week the Island’s tomatoes will be featuring on ITV- showcasing them as the best in the country.
Isle of Wight Radio has been to see, smell and taste the unique Island tomatoes, to discover why the Isle of Wight is the perfect place for them to grow.
You can learn more about the Island’s tomatoes at 7pm tonight (Tuesday 9 July) tomorrow and Thursday on ITV.
Isle of Wight-based tomato producer, The Tomato Stall of Wight Salads, is recognised as one of England’s top tomato growers. Producing over 170 different varieties of tomato, they have been providing produce to M&S customers for over 15 years.
Brian Moralee, Growing Manager at Wight Salads, said:
“We are passionate about providing consumers with the most flavoursome and nutritious produce and dedicate our time to growing the best quality tomatoes. The Isle of Wight offers an ideal setting to grow tomatoes as, being based off the mainland where cloud tends to settle, we have some of the highest levels of sunshine in the UK.
Isle of Wight Radio’s Iona Stewart-Richardson went and spoke to the supplier Brian from APS Produce at Newports M&S who is promoting them as part of a new campaign:
He went on to say how people should keep tomatoes in their fruit ball (where they belong) not in the fridge as it spoils their flavour. Tomatoes make great snacks for children and you can find out more about the Island’s toms after the weather on ITV.
