Kayak volunteers are needed for this year’s Solent Swim on 27 July.

West Wight Sports and Community Centre is appealing for kayakers to sign up, to ensure the event can take place later this month.

63 swimmers will go from Hurst Castle, across the Solent to Colwell Bay, however each one needs a kayak, to provide any necessary support or assistance for the swimmers.

MP Bob Seely, who is taking part in the event again this year said:

“This is a fantastic event to raise money for a community centre which does so much good for the people of the West Wight and further afield. These events can’t happen without people volunteering to help. If there are any kayakers out there who can help, please do get in touch.”

Clare Griffin from the West Wight Sports and Community Centre said:

“The Solent Swim is one of the main fundraising events for the Centre and since our first event in 2010, more than 350 people have swum the Solent and raised over £190,000 for the charity. Swimmer safety is paramount. We need about 35 kayakers to make the event safe.”
