The Cowes to East Cowes Floating Bridge is off again today (Saturday).

The Isle of Wight Council says engineers are on site to fix a fault with the vessel’s prow cable.

It comes just a day after Councillor Ian Ward, Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, praised the service.

Speaking on Isle of Wight Radio’s Topping in the Morning, he said:

“What people don’t know is it’s pretty reliable.

“It’s as reliable as the cross-Solent operators!”

The council says it continues to work well and last month operated for 94.3 per cent of its scheduled operating hours, carrying 40,163 foot passengers and 19,200 car users.

The vessel is due to be back up and running later this morning.

A foot passenger service is in place.
