Cowes Week’s sailing on Saturday has been cancelled, due to forecast high winds and Saturday’s SailGP event in Cowes is in doubt.

In a statement tonight (Thursday), Cowes Week Ltd said that, in light of the weather forecast for 10 August, all racing on Saturday has been abandoned.

On Sunday, racing for White Group yachts will be held off until midday, to allow additional time for competitors to reach Cowes, following the very strong winds. Meanwhile, Black Group racing will start just after 10am on 11 August.

Meanwhile today (Thursday), a press conference was held at the Egypt Point Race Village, where Saturday and Sunday’s high-speed SailGP racing event is based. It may also fall foul of the weather (a warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight by the Met Office).
