Islanders are being thanked for their support by the RSPCA, after the animal charity took in sixty-five chihuahuas from a house and van in Cowes.
One Chinchilla was also rescued by the Godshill-based branch.
The charity says it cannot release further details because of legal reasons. It says the animals are not ready to be rehomed.
Branch manager Suzanne Pugh said:
“We wouldn’t have been able to get through the last few days without the outpouring of kindness, love and generosity of people on and off the Island.
“As soon as people heard these animals were in our care, we had local residents arriving with food, donations and even to offer up their own time.
“As a charity we are so grateful to the people who took time out of their busy days to come and lend a hand with these animals even in a small way.
“I am new to the branch and have been overwhelmed by the amazing support from animal lovers across the island. I’d also like to thank our dedicated staff and veterinary teams who work around the clock to make sure our animals are well cared for.”
