Fears that a person was inside a house as fire spread from an neighbouring outbuilding earlier (Saturday) meant five fire engines were called to Blackwater, near Newport.

Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews from Newport, Ryde, Shanklin, Ventnor and Cowes attended the scene.

They were called to a home next to Radcliffe’s Farm, just off the main A3020 between Newport and Arreton, just after 5pm.

Everyone was accounted for, however, and firefighters ventilated the property.
