Winds are at force 9 in the Solent today (Saturday) and a weather warning for wind is in force until midnight, for the Isle of Wight.
At 3am, according to the National Coastwatch Station, the winds at the Needles Old Battery hit 84mph. This morning, they are reaching 74mph. The station is warning visitors to The Needles to stay well clear of cliff edges and to keep all dogs on leads.
A tree blocked the main Cowes to Newport road, at its junction with Londsdale Avenue for a time this morning, but Isle of Wight Radio understands it has since been removed. A tree is also down at Nettlestone’s Wishing Well pub.

Both the Cowes Week sailing regatta and the SailGP events are cancelled today.
Onshore entertainment is continuing as planned, however. In the Yacht Haven, Blonde Bombshell will headline tonight. In the Parade Village, Britain’s Got Talent’s Derek Sandy is due on stage.
The Coral Star sailing from Yarmouth to Lymington’s seafood festival has been cancelled because of the forecast bad weather. It is still planning to make the trip on Sunday morning though.
Its 3am car ferry was cancelled. The service is currently running, but is reporting a delay.
Red Jets are now running to timetable.
Hovertravel services are off.
Wightlink’s routes are running as normal.
The Jungle Fever After Dark party has been cancelled at Robin Hill. If you bought a ticket, you can use it for any remaining dates this summer.
Jack Up The Summer says it has cancelled the event for today on health and safety grounds. It plans to open tomorrow. It has posted this on its Facebook page.
Shanklin Carnival says the event will start at 9.15pm, weather permitting. It will make a final decision at 7pm and will post that on its Facebook page.
