Three Isle of Wight police officers have suffered minor injuries following an incident in Newport earlier this afternoon (Thursday).

Isle of Wight Radio understands at around 5pm an Armed Response Unit with riot shields was called to Newport’s Police Station on the High Street, in response to an incident.

A 23-year old man has been arrested and remains in custody.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told Isle of Wight Radio:

“A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and assaulting three police officers following an incident at Newport Police Station shortly after 5pm. He remains in custody at this time. The officers suffered minor injuries.”

The incident is not on-going.
