The Isle of Wight’s famous annual scooter rally returns today (Sunday).

More than 5,000 scooters are expected to descend on the Island, travelling all around the Isle of Wight throughout the day.

Live music from Mod, Soul and R&B acts will play live at the event this weekend.

Emma Evans from the Isle of Wight has been involved in the event since the 1980’s and has previously led the ride out, in memory of her son who died 12 years ago.

This year the event takes place on what would have been his 12th birthday.

Emma told Isle of Wight Radio:

“When you hear a scooter and you hear that noise it’s so exciting, the kids love it…It is just the atmosphere, there’s never any trouble, they really do look after you and they are the best people ever, not only that it’s brilliant for the Isle of Wight as well, it’s such good business for everyone and they love it”.

The ride out starts at 1pm at LA Bowl in Ryde.

From there, they will whizz through the likes of St Helens and Sandown.
