Islanders are gathered at Carisbrooke Castle today (Thursday) to remember those who have died at war, for the opening of the Field of Remembrance.

A moments silence was held at 11am- after cadets marched on parade through to the Princess Beatrice Garden- where a service was carried out by the priest.

 

Wreaths and poppies were laid by veterans, school children, members of the Isle of Wight Council and the Lord Lieutenant for the Isle of Wight- Susie Sheldon.

Many services will be taking place across the Island over the weekend, Newport’s starts at 10.45am on Saturday and Ventnor’s is at 3pm.
