A Flood Alert is still in place today (Friday) for the Eastern Yar from Whitwell to Bembridge, in particular, Alverstone.

The Environment Agency says heavy rain scheduled for tomorrow afternoon and evening may require a Flood Warning to be issued- so we must “be prepared”.

It’ll be updated tomorrow at midday.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said,

“The Eastern Yar in particular Alverstone is responsive to small totals of rainfall. On Saturday (9/11/19) afternoon and evening a band of potentially heavy rain is forecast (up to 45mm). This will increase water inland and fields nearest the river and levels may rise sharply, peaking at a higher level around midday Sunday (10/11/19).”

Unsettled conditions are forecast to continue into next week but will probably allow the river to fall to nearer normal levels.
