A Flood Alert could turn into a Flood Warning today (Saturday) for the Eastern Yar from Whitwell to Bembridge, in particular in Alverstone.
The Environment Agency says heavy rain scheduled for this afternoon and evening may require a Flood Warning to be issued- so we’re advised to be prepared.
An update is expected at midday today.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said,
“The Eastern Yar in particular Alverstone is responsive to small totals of rainfall. On Saturday (9/11/19) afternoon and evening a band of potentially heavy rain is forecast (up to 45mm). This will increase water inland and fields nearest the river and levels may rise sharply, peaking at a higher level around midday Sunday (10/11/19).”
Unsettled conditions are forecast to continue into next week but will probably allow the river to fall to nearer normal levels.
