A footballer from the Isle of Wight has gone viral on social media after saying he would rather be out surfing than playing football – in an TV interview with the BBC.
Scott Jones, who now plays for Chichester City, was interviewed by Mark ‘Chappers’ Chapman ahead of the FA Cup live second round draw.
Scott, who grew up on the Island playing for clubs including Binstead, Brading Town and Newport, was asked whether he’d prefer, ‘scoring a winner in the second round of the cup or catching a wave?’, Scott replied: ‘Tough, probably surfing though!’
Scott, 27, delighted Chappers by talking him through some of his surfing moves and admitted surfing in a good swell was better than playing football.
Chichester are the lowest ranked side in the FA Cup and will play away at either National League 1’s Tranmere or Wycombe Wanderers after receiving a bye in the first round.
Jones also said he might miss the next round of the Cup at the end of November because it clashed with Thanksgiving and he has an American girlfriend.
Chappers exclaimed: “You’re the best footballer I have ever interviewed!”
