The vandalism of a Christmas tree in Ryde – decorated by school children – has been brandished “mindless” and “disrespectful”.
According to Ryde Town Council (RTC), the tree – which stands proudly in St Thomas’ Square – was targeted last night (2).
RTC says hand decorated baubles, made by Year One pupils at Greenmount Primary School – and those who visit the town’s Youth Cafe – were taken.
A spokesperson said:
“The Town Council is very grateful to the young people from Greenmount and Network Ryde for all the care and effort they put into making the decorations and it is such a disappointment that their hard work was disrespected by such a mindless act.”
Hampshire Constabulary says it is investigating an incident:
“At 7.13am this morning police received a report of an incident which is reported to have taken place on the evening of 1 December.
“Christmas decorations were removed from a tree in St Thomas’ Square, Ryde. Some of the decorations were stolen and some were damaged.”
A video, that it is claimed was filmed on the night of the alleged incident, emerged on social media today (Tuesday).
