The captain of a car ferry – that was involved in a crash in 2018 – has been cleared of two offences.
63-year-old Ian Drummond was responsible for the Red Funnel ferry when it collided with a 32ft motor cruiser in September 2018- no one was injured in the collision.
Southampton Magistrates Court found Mr Drummond not guilty of failing to keep a lookout and misconduct likely to endanger ships, structures or individuals.
At the time of the crash the Red Funnel ferry – bound for East Cowes – had 202 people on board when it hit the motor cruiser which had four passengers.
The court heard how 57-year-old Peter Jackson – who was driving the motor cruiser – accepted a caution for his part in the crash.
It’s understood Mr Drummond no longer works for Red Funnel.
