The opening date of Sandown’s Premier Inn has been pushed back to summer 2020.

Posting in its latest update, the chain says work on the esplanade site is progressing despite bad weather.

Its new hotel and restaurant were due to open in the spring.

Geoff Cook, Senior Project and Programme Manager, said:

“Despite recent challenging weather conditions, we’re pleased to be making steady progress with the construction of Premier Inn Sandown.

“Construction of the building’s frame has been completed and we’re now moving onto weatherproofing the building, installing mechanical and electrical systems and beginning the internal fit-out of the hotel. We’re currently on course to complete construction and open our doors to the new hotel and restaurant in summer 2020.”

Premier Inn’s parent company, Whitbread, says the crane on site is expected to be removed in March 2020.

It says a recruitment process for roles at the new hotel will also begin soon. Updates will be posted, here.
