A Flood Alert has been issued for the Isle of Wight.
The Environment Agency says we should “be prepared” as flooding is possible – due to Storm Brendan which is due to bring Gale Force 8 winds and large waves.
The Agency says flood protection should be installed near the floating bridge and at Well Road in East Cowes.
A spokesperson said:
“Wednesday’s early morning tide at 02:07 is higher than normal due to Storm Brendan which brings Gale Force 8 Southerly winds and large waves.
“The total forecast tide is 4.89 metres Chart Datum (2.30 mAOD) at Cowes. For 1 hour either side of high water, flooding of sea front roads, esplanades and car parks is expected, especially on the exposed coast.
Water levels will be high in Cowes, affecting the High Street, Medina Road, near the floating bridge and Sea Street at Newport. In East Cowes, seawater forced up through drains will impact the road at Albany Road, York Avenue and Castle Street.”
The Agency says after this tide‚ no further impacts are expected.
