A tree has fallen onto a van near Winford this afternoon (Tuesday) as strong winds and heavy rain batters the Isle of Wight.
The tree came down on Alverstone Road and crashed into the roof of the Renault van.
A large dent can be seen on the top of the high-top vehicle.
Van owner, Lance Nash who runs L.C Nash Property Maintenance, told Isle of Wight Radio:
”The van was parked up on the side of the road and the tree came tumbling down in the wind and smashed into it.
”It was lucky it wasn’t a car or smaller vehicle that it hit, because it could have been a lot worse.”
The tree blocked the road for a time, but was safely cut up and removed by JLW Groundworks, with the help of other local residents.
The police and Island Roads were made aware of the incident.
Alverstone Road is now open.
