A landslip has led to the emergency closure of two Ventnor routes today (Thursday).
Belgrave Road has been shut from its junction with Alpine Road to its junction with Esplanade Road.
A wall below the road has partially collapsed and cracking has opened up in the road surface.
Esplanade Road, from its junction with Marine Parade to its junction with Belgrave Road, has also been shut.
Island Roads says it is necessary due to the above landslip.
A diversion route is in place.
*The Isle of Wight Council says engineers are on site carrying out investigations.
A spokesperson said:
“A road closure has been put in place at Belgrave Road and Esplanade Road, Ventnor, to ensure public safety, following significant cracking in the road and the breach of an adjacent retaining wall.
“A team of structural and geotechnical engineers are currently carrying out investigations on site to determine the root cause of the problem and once this work has been completed, we will be in a position to comment further.”
