Sandown residents say they are “honoured” after being selected as a 2020 UK Finalist for Britain in Bloom.
Organisers of the RHS event say it is about involving the whole community, with 70 finalists now dusting off their tools to begin potting and planting for this year’s contest.
It comes after judges during last year’s competition declared “Sandown is on the Up!”.
Sandown Green Town Volunteers’ Chair, Christine Jackson, said:
“We are honoured to be leading Sandown’s entry, representing the town and Island we love, and S&SE In Bloom.”
Towns are judged on their horticultural achievements, their work for the environment and community activity.
The floral contributions of businesses and residential front gardens are taken into account and the activity of the local council.
