Paul Knights was out capturing footage with his GoPro Cam on Thursday (13), when he was soaked from head to toe by surprise.
Fortunately, Paul was in a safe area and sensibly behind fencing when the huge waves landed a knockout blow.
The force knocked Paul off his feet and onto the ground – but thankfully he escaped unharmed.
A Met Office Yellow Warning for strong winds comes into force at 10am today (Saturday), while a heavy rain warning is in place from 12pm tomorrow.
Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, Paul said:
“I was out walking along Ventnor seafront admiring the gorgeous waves kicked up by a massive swell and the high tide.
“Keeping well back, I was thinking to myself ‘I don’t want to be seen as one of those idiots taking chances just for a selfie.’
“But the waves were so beautiful – they swept me off my feet! Thankfully, I was behind the safety of the fencing of the old skate park.”
