Concerns for the welfare of a missing Isle of Wight man prompted a ‘large scale’ search in Newport last night (Friday).

The Coastguard and National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter was deployed at around 10pm, alongside Hampshire Constabulary officers.

WightSAR volunteers joined the search on foot, while coastguard teams and Cowes RNLI searched the River Medina area.

A 56-year-old Newport man was found safe and well ‘a few hours later’, according to police.
