Afternoon Traffic Chaos In Ryde As Result Of Southern Water Works

Motorists are facing lengthy gridlock in Ryde this afternoon (Thursday) as a result of four-way temporary traffic lights.

People travelling to and from Ryde have been affected by the work on Brading Road, which has impacted the adjacent Tesco and nearby McDonald's, gym and golf venues.

An Isle of Wight Radio listener reported having been stuck in the Tesco carpark for around half an hour as traffic 'crawled' towards the exit.

The work is being undertaken by Southern Water at the roundabout outside the Busy Bee Garden Centre — another location hit by the backlog of traffic.

Traffic is reportedly back up to Beaper Shute and Great Preston Road, with motorists advised to avoid surrounding areas this afternoon, seeking alternative routes where possible.
