A group of students from The Bay CE School (secondary site) have returned to school with memories of a lifetime after an unforgettable skiing adventure at Canada’s stunning Panorama Mountain Resort.

A total of 31 students from Years 9, 10 and 11, accompanied by staff, spent a week of their Easter holiday in the Purcell Mountains, where they embraced the thrill of learning to ski and enjoyed evening activities such as swimming in hot spring pools and making smores.

They also got the chance to explore the beautiful Canadian town of Banff on the final day.

“This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students,” said Mr King, Senior Deputy Headteacher at The Bay CE School who led the trip.
“For many, it was their first time skiing – and their first time seeing snow on that scale. They challenged themselves, supported each other, and had a fantastic time.”

Throughout the trip, students took part in daily ski lessons with professional instructors, improving their skills across a variety of runs.

A range of feedback was received by students, including:

“It was an amazing trip, I have never skied before and although it was hard work, I was so proud of what I accomplished. It was so much fun. I have never seen so much snow, it was beautiful. It was the trip of a lifetime!”

Lily (age 14)

“I loved everything about the trip. The skiing was great, the lessons were great, the views were great and I loved the freedom of having downtime with my friends in the resort.”

Seb (age 16)

“I absolutely loved learning to ski. The experience of going to Canada was incredible, to get to wake up and see the views everyday and ski on the mountains was amazing!”

Grace (age 16)

The Bay CE School places high value on visits and trips.

The school knows that students learn so much when exploring outside of the classroom and gaining real-world experiences, opening their minds to different cultures and strengthening their knowledge of the world around them.

The school works really hard to offer as many opportunities for pupils as possible to bring their learning to life.

There are two more international trips this academic year, a trip to Disneyland Paris during May half term and a trip to Taizé ecumenical Christian community in France.

These international trips are in addition to university trips, theatre trips and end of year rewards trips.
