A new seafront café will be built in an Isle of Wight village after receiving 91 letters of support.

County Hall granted SE-View permission to build a cafe at Kingsmere on Lane End Road in Bembridge, with approved plans also including parking spaces, a garden, bike storage and a pedestrian walkway.

The decision is in the face of eleven objections including opposition from Bembridge Parish Council (BPC).

BPC cited ‘insufficient parking provision’ and an ‘adverse impact’ on the area’s character, appearance and neighbouring properties.

Explaining the approval, planners wrote:

“The proposed development would be a high-quality modern design and would represent an investment into the local and wider tourism offer in Bembridge.
“It is considered that any harm caused by this proposal would be minimal and would not outweigh the overall benefits, in terms of the economic and social benefits and bringing back into use previously developed land, removing the existing unused and unattractive structure in place.
“The use proposed is considered appropriate for this seafront location, with a historic cafe use on site, and highways and ecological matters can be dealt with via condition.”
