A 30-foot yacht with two people aboard which went aground west of Gurnard Ledge led to the launching of Cowes RNLI lifeboat yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.

After launching just after 2 pm the lifeboat was quickly on the scene; then a crewman waded through the shallow water to carry out a welfare check of the yacht crew.

After it was clear all was well aboard the yacht, and it would safely be re-floated by the incoming tide, the lifeboat returned to its station, arriving there at around 3pm.
