Investigation Continues Following Serious Assault In Newport

A 42 year-old man from Newport arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent has been bailed until Monday 7 July while enquiries continue.
At around midday an 82-year-old man was assaulted leaving him with injuries to his face, elbow and hand that were subsequently treated. He was briefly left unconscious as a result of the incident.
We are continuing to ask anyone who saw what happened, or who was in the area of Cross Lane, School Lane and Staplers Road around the time of the assault to contact us.
