Writer: Dominic KureenDominic Kureen

Sandown & Shanklin RFC Veterans will take part in a tournament in support of the RFU Injured Players Foundation at Twickenham this Spring.

Saturday May 24 will see the iconic players take part in a tournament, with Islanders being offered the chance to support the local legends.

The RFU Injured Players Foundation, England Rugby’s Official Charity, provides support to any rugby player who sustains a life changing spinal cord or brain injury while playing the game.

It also funds vital injury prevention research to keep everyone safer on the field.

This fantastic foundation has continued to support young Islander and Hurricane, Luke Orton, who suffered a life changing injury playing rugby in 2023.

Luke will be managing the team in this tournament at the home of rugby.

Return day coach travel from the Island is available for all to travel with the team and all ages are encouraged and welcome.

Prices for return, including ferry ticket, entrance and ticket for Twickenham is:

Adults (16 years +) - £45.00 |

Children (15 years & under) - £15.00

(Entrance fee to Twickenham profits go to the IPF | Limit of two children to one adult)

A spokesperson for The Hurricanes said:

"We would like to thank our long-standing club sponsor, WightFibre, which is kindly supporting the team for the day.
"The company continues to recognise the local community and wider charitable causes."
