Family staycations are a quintessential part of British culture, whether it’s escaping to the beaches of Skegness or Cornwall, heading to the Highlands for a breath of fresh air, or even setting up at a campsite tucked away in a forest or field.

While the typical destinations might not have changed, people’s budgets certainly have, and Brits are always looking for ways to get away without splashing the cash.

This is what prompted self-catering accommodation specialists Hoseasons to find which popular UK destinations are the most budget-friendly for a family holiday.

Using factors such as the average cost of a holiday park and the amount of child-friendly attractions, each location investigated was then given a score out of 100 to create the rankings.

Isle of Wight comes out on top

Emerging as the number one destination for a family holiday on a budget, the Isle of Wight has great scores across the board.

While holiday park and meal costs for the area are around average for the locations featured in the list, 134.6 free/budget-friendly attractions and 87.6 child-friendly attractions per 100,000 people help to cement the position.

The Isle of Wight has been a holiday hotspot for decades for Brits, filled with incredible areas of natural beauty like The Needles and historic monuments such as Carisbrooke Castle - and apparently great prices too!
