Residents and staff at Cowes care home, Old Charlton House, were delighted to be involved in the celebration of resident, Harry, and his wife Kathleen on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
They shared a lunch together on their own table special table, complete with a bottle of wine, a balloon and several cards.
The home facilitated the purchase of a card and flowers that Harry surprised his wife with.
Chef, Lynn, made a very tasty cake for the happy couple, which everyone was able to share. We all congratulated them with a rousing three cheers.
They shared their memories of their wedding day 60 years ago saying the weather was as lovely as it currently is, although it was breezy and so her veil was weighted down with rocks for the photographs.
Kathleen also told us that later she recycled her wedding dress as lampshades.
When asked what the secret to a long and happy marriage is, Harry replied:
“ God knows”!
To the same question Kathleen said:
“To always win the argument!”
Kathleen said she thought the day would be the same as any other and that she didn’t expect the special day it turned out to be.
