Plans To Build Eight Houses On Land Owned By Island Engineering Firm Back On Table

Plans to build eight houses on land owned by an Isle of Wight engineering firm are back on the table.

Members of the public have until May 7 to put forward their views on Mr S Bennett of Evergreen Holdings Ltd’s application for eight new houses at Clark Masts Teksam Ltd off Ringwood Road in Binstead.

Evergreen Holdings, which owns Clark Masts Teksam, submitted revised plans which also include the demolition of part of the on-site factory, a new detached factory building and related parking and landscaping.

The proposed homes are classed as ‘market housing’, according to Evergreen’s application form.

Property specialists BCM Wilson Hill said the proposal will ‘deliver a high-quality standard of design’ with continuing local employment opportunities.

Its submitted statement said:

“The housing types are two bedroom units which meets Island needs and can provide dwellings for couples and families.

“The new factory building will provide modern facilities for the existing company to relocate into.

“The position, scale and mass of the proposed dwellings and factory will not harm any existing or future residents’ amenity in terms of privacy, outlook or disturbance.”

In submissions this week, Island Roads and the Environment Agency said they had no objections to the plans.

Island Roads did however recommend conditions be imposed for highway safety.

The council is due to make a decision on June 15.
