The founder of Wootton's Care in the Garden has called for businesses affected by roadworks to be compensated for loss of earnings.
John Goodenough has warned the not-for-profit organisation could be set to lose thousands of pounds, following the closure of Park Road.
The route is used by staff and customers to access Palmers Brook Industrial Estate, where the company is based.
It was partially shut by Southern Water on Monday (5). Signs saying 'businesses open as usual' have been erected at the entrance to the road, but John says it's done little to prevent loss of income.
John Goodenough.
He told Isle of Wight Radio the closure is contributing to reduced footfall. In the week since it's been shut, John anticipates he is down by around £5,000.
Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, he said it's a "bitter pill to swallow":
"I know people have work to do. It used to happen frequently. It knocks you back. Part of our fundraising capacity is out retail and it knocks our retail for six.
"It just frustrates me. When somebody closes the road, there's no recourse for compensation or loss of earnings and I find that a bitter pill to take really. We've been to the contractors 'sorry we're just doing our job'. We've been to the main contractor 'no there's no recourse of compensation. So we're could lose £5,000 and nobody in business or otherwise can afford to lose that money."
Park Road's closure has also contributed to heavy traffic and delays along Lushington Hill and Fairlee Road.
Heavy traffic congestion on Lushington Hill, Whippingham Rd & Fairlee Rd is causing significant delays to Routes 4, 5 & 9 buses. Currently running up to 30mins behind time

Isle of Wight Radio has asked Southern Water for a comment.
John is hoping the works don't discourage Islanders from celebrating Care in the Garden's tenth anniversary tomorrow (Saturday).
The organisation, which provides work for those with disabilities, is holding a socially-distanced event throughout the day.
