Coronavirus: 44 Deaths In Isle Of Wight Care Homes

Another person has died in a care home on the Isle of Wight due to the coronavirus.

This brings the total number of Covid-19 related deaths on the Island to 87 — 44 in a care home, 39 in hospital, three at home and one in hospice.

The latest death has been listed in data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as to have happened up to August 7.

This is the fourth consecutive week that figures from the ONS has shown a care home death to have happened.

The last Covid-19 related death to have occurred in St Mary’s Hospital in Newport was on June 6.

Positive cases on the Isle of Wight have also been increasing recently, with figures from Public Health England confirming five more cases since the start of August compared to the three positive tests in the entire month of July.

However, in an effort to stop the spread and a potential second wave of the virus nationally, the Isle of Wight has been asked once again to be the testers of a new track-and-trace app for the government.

Letters have been sent to all Island households in the last few days with a unique code to download the app and also explaining how the app works.
