Coronavirus: Isle Of Wight Cases Rise To 421 As New Data Revealed

New data shows the Isle of Wight has recorded a total of 421 confirmed cases of coronavirus - with that figure now including results from the Island's drive-through test centre, as well as home-testing kits.

The number had stood at 204. However, Islanders are being urged not be alarmed by the rise of 217.

The figure accounts for tests done throughout the entire pandemic.

From today, the data now reveals the number of test results from swabs taken at drive through centres and home testing kits processed in commercial labs — known as ‘pillar 2’ data.

Previously, Public Health England’s dashboard only provided 'Pillar 1' data - the number of cases from tests done in hospitals and laboratories.

The PHE figures show that the Island has an infection rate of 297.4 per 100,000. That has increased from 144.1 per 100,000.

This ‘pillar 2’ data was only made available last week to Public Health departments to inform the development and management of local Covid-19 outbreak control plans.
