Yarmouth Lifeboat went to the rescue of two vessels in difficulty off the Isle of Wight yesterday (Thursday).
During the first shout of the day Yarmouth Lifeboat assisted a 35ft motor yacht with engine failure, which had initially reported the emission of smoke from their engine.
With a number of possible cuases for the mechanical failure, the casualty was towed to the safety of Yarmouth Harbour.
On arrival, the lifeboat was tasked to relaunch by HM Coastguard and headed west out of the Solent, where the crew located the casualty vessel that had suffered from fouled stern gear making it impossible for them to use their engine.
In the strong ebb tide, they were assisted by the lifeboat and towed to Lymington Yacht Haven where they were able to be lifted out and assessed for damage and seaworthiness.
Yarmouth lifeboat returned to her berth and was ready for service at 16.30pm.
