Isle Of Wight Businesses Triumphant At Beautiful South Awards

Isle of Wight businesses came away triumphant at the Beautiful South Awards on Monday evening (25).

East Afton Farmhouse at Tapnell Farm shared Gold in the Wedding Venue of the Year category at the event hosted at The Grand Hotel in Brighton.

In the Glamping Business of the Year Award, Tom’s Eco Lodge at Tapnell Farm were rewarded with Silver, while Sibbecks Farm at Whitwell were commended in the category.

Hovertravel were recognised for their off-Island patient transfer service in the Resilience and Innovation Award, winning Silver in a hotly contested category.

Neil Chapman, managing director at Hovertravel, said:

"Being recognised by these prestigious awards for our community-focussed Island Rescue service is very rewarding for all those involved in getting the project started and keeping it operating even when the pandemic finished. 

"This rapid off-Island transfer of stretcher patients would not have been possible without the expert assistance of Griffon Hoverwork, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and our own engineers — all of whom worked alongside our pilots, our operational teams, the IOW Ambulance Service and the IOW NHS Trust to create a service which helps save lives."

The luxury self-catering Haviland Cottage in Ventnor, was commended as the Dog Friendly Business of the Year, with judges recognising that is provides a dog bedroom with it’s own en-suite shower room!

Wightlink came away with Bronze in the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award.

"Sustainability is the key for success for 21st century hospitality businesses. We at Wightlink already operate England’s first large hybrid energy ferry and are delighted to be recognised for our achievements so far to reduce carbon emissions, promote recycling and protect the Solent’s marine environment."
