A man has been tasered by police after assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Police were called at 9.25pm on Friday night (14) to reports of a serious assault on Portland Street, Newport, after a 36-year-old woman was assaulted causing a serious injury to her elbow.
Police also received a report of criminal damage within an address on Portland Street, and a public order offence.
Officers said they located a suspect, a 24-year-old man from London, on Trafalgar Road. The man assaulted a police officer and resisted arrest, before a Taser was deployed to gain compliance.
The man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with a court order.
Police said he has been released on bail as enquiries continue.
