
A vehicle has crashed into an electricity pole between Newport and Yarmouth this afternoon (Thursday) causing significant disruption for drivers.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were alerted to the incident — which occurred on Ningwood Hill — at around midday.
Isle of Wight Radio understands the incident has involved a single-vehicle colliding with an electricity pole and residents subsequently evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure.
Ningwood Road remains closed as the area is secured.
Southern Vectis number 7 buses are taking diverted routes as a result.
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We were called at 11.12am on Thursday 27 February to a report of a single vehicle collision on the A3054 Ningwood Hill, Cranmore.
"It was reported that a car had left the road, damaging a fence and a telegraph pole. No injuries have been reported.
"The road is currently closed between Station Road and Hill Place Lane."
