Wightlink has confirmed it has no immediate plans to restore its half-hourly FastCat service, despite calls to do so.
The firm claims demand is "very far from back to normal", following disruption caused by COVID-19.
It says it will continue with hourly sailings unless footfall increases.
Commuter numbers are half what they used to be at peak times pre-Covid, Wightlink says.
"If demand for travel between Portsmouth and Ryde picks up, Wightlink will be only too happy to expand the FastCat timetable.
"There is a frequent car ferry service between Portsmouth and Fishbourne, including night sailings."
There is currently a two boat half-hourly FastCat service at weekends in the summer and Easter school holidays, and during the Festival.
Currently the last sailing from Portsmouth to Ryde, via the FastCat, is 8.20pm.
