A popular children's playground in Sandown is now open, thanks to the efforts of the Town Council.
Sandown's Mayor and its Deputy have been out litter picking - to make sure the site was ready for parents and children to enjoy this weekend.
As promised, the playground was officially re-opened on Saturday.
New measures have also been installed to give playground users of the latest advice and information on social distancing and hygiene.
Mayor Gary Young said:
'Thanks to colleagues for helping litter pick, repair damaged fences and carry out other tasks, to make sure we can open the play area safely this weekend.'
Deputy Mayor Paul Brading added:
'We have worked with local stakeholders, who are also opening their facilities this weekend, to ensure we respond to local need and thanks to our groundsman Steve the grass in playpark, and by the cycle racks, is looking in great condition'.
The Town Council had previously opened the Public Toilets, with additional cleaning, installed 22 rubbish points on the Beach, and are in the process of implementing new guidance allowing the opening of the Broadway Centre; and repair work is ongoing with the Skatepark, which should be re-opened in the coming days.
Gary concluded:
'It's regrettable that the damage to the Skatepark has delayed the safe re-opening of the facility, especially given the efforts of Councillors to make it safe to open for local children and families'.
