Islanders Hang Ribbons Of Remembrance In Mountbatten's Chelsea Garden

Colourful tributes in memory of people’s loved ones will be on display at Mountbatten this summer, as part of a new remembrance event.

Remembering with Ribbons runs throughout July and August, giving Islanders the chance to place a special ribbon in Mountbatten’s Chelsea Garden.

The ribbons can be personalised, and they will stay on display until September 1. They are free, though anyone who makes a donation to Mountbatten will receive a special pack with them.

Nigel Hartley, Mountbatten CEO said:

“Remembering is an important part of the Mountbatten ‘living, dying, remembering’ strapline.”

“This past year has been challenging in so many ways and finding moments to remember and honour our loved ones who have died is therefore more important than ever before.

“Whether someone has died recently, and our grief is new, or whether we are remembering a loved one who died some time ago, all our usual ways of coping with grief and bereavement have changed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We wanted to create something that gives people the opportunity to remember together in a safe way and our beautiful garden gives us that opportunity.

“Anyone who also wants to donate will be helping us support more people who are bereaved, and others who need our expert care on the Island.”
